Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Laborde will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Rusty Rabalais, Father Irion St. Romain, and Father Jim Ferguson officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum #2 in Marksville. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville. 

Mrs. Laborde, age 89, of Marksville, passed away at her residence in Marksville on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at her home. She was deeplydevoted to her four children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dr. N. Francis Laborde. 


Mrs. Laborde was born in Abbeville, LA. Her parents were L.H. and Elizabeth Noel. She was one of fifteen children. She entered college at 16 years of age and graduated from Southwestern Louisiana in 1943 and moved to Marksville where she worked for the County Agents office. She went on to teach Nutrition classes at the Alexandria Trade School until her retirement in the mid 80’s. Many of her students reaped the benefits of her lessons on social graces and proper etiquette. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and a member of the Marksville Garden Club for over 50 years, holding many offices and always taking an active part in the Horticulture division of the clubs’ flower shows. She was honored with the prestigious Circle of Roses Distinction. Besides her love for gardening, she was an exceptional cook, beautiful seamstress, and an avid bridge player. She had the distinction of being the first female juror and foreman on a 12 person criminal jury trial in Avoyelles Parish. 

Mrs. Laborde leaves behind four children. Nell Laborde Guillot and husband David of Madisonville, LA., Robert N. ‘Bubba’ Laborde and wife Lauren of Marksville, David Laborde and wife Diane of Stonewall, TX., and John Ed Laborde and wife Tiffany of Marksville, one sister, Mabel Lyons of Jackson, MS., 9 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will resume at 7:30 a.m. Friday until shortly before time of Funeral Service. 

A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Escudé Funeral Home Mr. Robert Earl Pipkin Sr. age 57, passed away on March 29, 2014 in Bunkie general hospital, Bunkie, La. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Mary Pipkin of cottonport, sons; Kevin Pipkin, Jason Pipkin and Robert Pipkin Jr. all of cottonport, daughters; Shantell Gordon, Charlotte Pipkin, Sara Pipkin all of cottonport, Ebony Pipkin of long bridge and Sherita Pipkin of Marksville, sister; Merlene Lavalais of cottonport, He was preceded in death by his mother; Evorn Pipkin, He is also survived by 14 grandchildren. 

Funeral services for Peter Harrison Sampson of Marksville will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 beginning at 11am at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Mansura with Fr. Laird officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery in Mansura. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 beginning at 9am until 11am at the Escudé Funeral Home of Mansura. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Escudé Funeral Home.

Peter Harrison Sampson

Peter Harrison Sampson, age 85, passed away at Beaumont Nursing Home in Beaumont, TX on Thursday, March 27, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harris & Ophelia Dupas Sampson; his wife, Madelyn Jordan Samspon; his brothers: Joseph Sampson, Aaron Sampson, and Howard Sampson; and his sister, Eola Sampson Jackson and Victoria Sampson Berzart.

 

Those left to cherish his memories are a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ted Joseph Dauzat will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014 in St. Frances De Sales Catholic Church in Echo, with Rev. Bruce Miller officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Frances De Sales Mausoleum, under the direction of Kramer of Fifth Ward.
