A new oil well south of Avoyelles in St. Landry has come on line with promising numbers.

The initial production of the well is over 2,000 barrels of oil per day, double the amount some industry watchers were anticipating.

The well is drilled into the deep Austin Chalk formation. Three similar wells recently drilled in Avoyelles Parish did not have as much luck as the St. Landry Well, coming in between 200 and 800 barrels of oil per day in their first reports.

Experts hope that as drilling continues in the area, techniques will improve which should increase the productivity of future wells.

Here are the numbers of the St. Landry Well:

Atinum's Briggs Alt. #1 IP's In The Austin Chalk

Atinum's Briggs Alt. #1 that proved very challenging to drill, has IP'd with some great rates:

2184 BOPD (oil); 6795 MCFD (natural gas); 3276 BWPD (water) on a 38/64 choke.
