Avoyelles fugitive captured in Florida

A Moreauville man wanted on charges of sexual offenses involving children has been arrested and returned to Avoyelles Parish.

Sheriff David Dauzat said Travis Anthony Ryan, 26, had fled the parish in November 2020 after he was charged with sexual battery and seven counts of indecent behavior with juveniles involving a victim under the age of 13.  The U.S. Marshals Service Task Force located Ryan in Okeechobee, Fla., where he was arrested on Dec. 23, 2021. He was held in Florida until being transported to Avoyelles on Jan. 6.

In addition to the original charges, Ryan was booked on three counts of failure to appear in court on two traffic offenses and a charge of possession of stolen items. He is being held in the parish jail under $150,000 bond.

Dauzat expressed his thanks to the law enforcement agents who helped track, locate and arrest the suspect. He said APSO is always willing and proud to work with other agencies to bring fugitives to justice.

To those who fled to avoid facing trial for their alleged offenses, Dauzat said, "You can run, but you can’t hide!”
