Avoyelles adds 113 new COVID cases to pandemic total

Several months ago a daily COVID report with over 500 tests reviewed would have been considered a "big" report. After a month of reports with around 2,000 tests per day, anything under 1,000 is considered "light."

That being said, the Friday report is another "light" one for Avoyelles Parish, but still resulted in a triple-digit increase in new cases. There were 113 new cases diagnosed in 543 tests reviewed.

For the first time in the Omicron surge, Avoyelles' one-day report positive rate was higher than the state's -- 20.8 percent to 20.2 percent.

Of the tests, 298 were lab tests with 35 positive results, for an 11.7 percent positive rate. There were 245 rapid result tests with 78 new COVID cases, reflecting a 31.8 percent positive rate.

The parish's pandemic totals as of Friday are 9,619 cases and 184 deaths. The state's totals are 1,108,739 cases and 15,324 deaths.
