Avoyelles has 18 new cases of COVID in Tuesday update

The current upward trend in COVID infections continued for Avoyelles Parish Tuesday as the state health department reported 18 new cases since the three-day weekend report was released Monday.

The Monday report reflected a concerning 13.6-case-per-day pace. That was topped by Tuesday's count.

There were 156 tests reviewed for the Tuesday update. There were six positives in 71 lab tests and 12 new cases diagnosed in 85 rapid result tests. That is a one-day overall positive rate of 11.5 percent, an 8.5 percent rate for lab tests and 14.1 percent in rapid result tests.

There were no additional COVID-related deaths in the parish.

As of Tuesday, Avoyelles has had 4,587 infections and 127 deaths from COVID since the pandemic began in March 2020. The state has had 572,253 cases and 10,934 deaths from COVID. On
Tuesday there were 1,390 Louisianians hospitalized with COVID-19, with 127 on ventilators.
