Avoyelles weekend COVID report: 131 new cases, no deaths

Avoyelles Parish had another 131 new cases of COVID diagnosed over the weekend, according to the Louisiana Department of Health's update released today.

There were 887 tests in that report, reflecting a weekend positive rate of 14.7. While that is disturbingly high compared to the 1 and 2 percent of just a few months ago, the parish seems to be faring much better than other areas of the state. The overall weekend positive rate in the state based on the Monday report was 35.4 percent -- 52,750 tests with 18,683 positive results.

Avoyelles had no additional deaths over the weekend. There were 51 COVID-related deaths in the state.

Avoyelles' pandemic totals as of Monday were 9,750 cases and 184 deaths. The state totals were 1,127,422 cases and 15,374 deaths.
