COVID vaccination incentive program begins Monday

$100 to those getting their first vaccination at community events

Avoyelles Sleeves Up community-based vaccination events, conducted in collaboration with the Louisiana National Guard, is participating in the "Shot for 100" vaccine incentive program, Sleeves Up Project Manager Liz Leger said.

Under the state program, anyone receiving their first shot of a COVID vaccine at one of the community events where the National Guard is administering the immunizations will be given $100.

Leger said those receiving the vaccination through a health care provider or pharmacy, and those receiving a second dose of a two-shot vaccine or a booster shot will not receive the $100.

"All events sponsored by Avoyelles Sleeves Up will be offering the $100 for the first shot a person receives," Leger said.

HOW TO GET $100

Individuals will receive a deactivated Visa gift care upon vaccination. After registering online at ShotFor100.com, the card will be loaded with $100. The incentive program will end Oct. 30 or while supplies last.

Leger said Avoyelles Sleeves Up team members will be available at the event sites to assist those needing help ino activating the $100 VISA card.

Children are eligible for the cash incentive, but require parental consent to be vaccinated, she said.

In Avoyelles, the program begins Monday with events in Simmesport from 9-11 a.m. at the Senior Citizen Center at 509 Norwood St., and at Salem Baptist Church in Bunkie, 107 Ash St., from 1-3 p.m.
There will also be an event from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church's Rateau Center at 3658 Main St. in Hessmer.
Other Avoyelles Sleeves Up events this month will be Oct. 11 at the Moreauville Community Center (9:30-11:30 a.m.) and Mansura Cochon de Lait Pavilion (1-3 p.m.), Oct. 18 at Fresh Catch Bistreaux in Marksville (4-6 p.m.), Oct. 22 at the Effie Volunteer Fire Department (9:30-11:30 a.m.) and Fifth Ward Community Center (1-3 p.m.) and Oct. 27 at the Plaucheville Community Center (9:30-11:30 a.m.) and next to Cottonport Town Hall (1-3 p.m.).
