Brouillette man charged with murder in neighbor's death

A Brouillette man was beaten to death last Sunday afternoon (Jan. 27) and his neighbor has been charged with 2nd degree murder in the case.

Bruce Lachney, 60, of 4526 Hwy 452 was arrested Sunday in connection with the beating death of 65-year-old Farrel Graser. Graser was killed in his front yard at 4489 Hwy 452 in the Brouillette Cabins.

Lachney is being held under $750,000 bond for 2nd degree murder and obstruction of justice

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report at about 4:30 p.m. last Sunday of two men fighting in the yard of the Brouillette Cabins. The witness stayed on the phone with 911 until deputies arrived.

Graser was dead at the scene. He was apparently struck in the head with a heavy piece of wood, APSO Chief Deputy Steve Martel said. An autopsy is pending to officially determine the cause of death.

Witnesses told deputies they saw the other man in the fight, whom they thought was Lachney, run cross the road toward an abandoned house.

Deputies searched the area by foot and saw Lachney in the field behind that house. After a brief footchase, Lachney was taken into custody, Martel noted.

Martel said the motive for the fight has not been determined at this time..
