Bunkie man arrested by Alexandria Police

A Bunkie man who got nervous after an Alexandria traffic stop, denying that his truck belonged to him, ended up charged with drug and other offenses, according to a release.
A Rapides Parish Sheriff's deputy saw Michael James Mayberry with an alleged improper tail light, so he tried to stop him on Monroe Street in Alexandria in the early hours of Sunday, June 24.
Mayberry, 45, of the 400 block of Pershing Highway, stopped on Tennessee Street. As the deputy was walking toward the truck, Mayberry pulled away but then stopped again, reads a release.
The deputy told Mayberry why he was stopped and began writing a ticket.
"As the deputy is writing the citation, Mayberry became very elusive with his answers to standard questions such as denying the vehicle was his even though the paperwork and a computer check indicated it was registered to Mayberry," it reads.
With that, the deputy told Mayberry he was going to have his K-9 Beny circle the truck to "free air sniff" for drugs, and the dog gave an alert at the passenger side door.
A search of the truck found a bag of suspected marijuana, seven smaller wrapped bags of suspected marijuana, another bag of suspected heroin and a bag with about 21 capsules suspected to contain heroin, it reads. Found with the drugs was a suspected counterfeit $100 bill.
Mayberry was arrested and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on charges of having an improper tail light, two count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance I with intent to distribute and one count of monetary instrument abuse.
According to the sheriff's office, about 30 grams of heroin worth an estimated $60,000 and 24 grams of marijuana were seized.
Mayberry later was released on a $20,100 bond.
