Four volumes of Avoyelles Marriage Records 1899--1919 released

Avoyelles genealogist Ellen Dauzat has released a four-volume set of books on marriage records in Avoyelles 1899-1919. Dauzat has been instrumental working in genealogy studies of Avoyelles.
“Avoyelles Marriage Records” was compiled by Dauzat and broken down into Volume I: 1899-1902; Volume II: 1903-1908; Volume III: 1908-1912 and Volume IV: 1910-1919.
Records were compiled from records at the Avoyelles Parish Court-house Clerk of Court Office.
According to the introduction, there are a vast number of people researching their family history. Family historians are researching at the parish courthouse, State Archives of Louisiana, Family Search Centers, libraries, churches and synagogues for vital records.
People can now access a wealth of records online and build their family trees. Year after year family research continues to grow. Not all information is online or in microfilm, researchers still rely on books to acquire information or go directly to the source.
Marriage records give good historical information about a person. Records can name the parents and if they died previous to a marriage of a couple. The age of the bride and groom at the time of their marriage helps in determining about birth date. Witnesses to the marriage could be relatives. The marriage books located at the Avoyelles Parish Courthouse were copied by hand from the originals and are generally accurate. The mistakes in the primary books are in the transcription due to illegible or unclear handwriting and simple human error. All information found in these works should be corroborated with other available sources including birth and death certificates, probate records and and census records.
The names in the volumes are listed in alphabetical order, the male is listed first in bold type, followed by the marriage date and the female also in bold type. Parents, witnesses and minister are included if shown. Where ages were given those are also added. Entries in the books also include application date and filed date. Marriage information found in these works are from the original documents and the bride and groom names were taken from the signatures when possible.
The Clerk of Court is available to assist in locating records and books for research.
The four volumes of “Avoyelles Parish Marriage Records” are available on amazon.com. Cost for the first three volumes are $20 each. The fourth and largest volume is $25.
