Historic newspaper office building for sale in Marksville

One of downtown Marksville’s historic Main Street buildings is going up for sale or lease.
Avoyelles Publishing Company, which has been the longest occupying tenant of the building for over four decades, will move into a smaller new location downtown if the current office sells.
The building houses the offices of the three newspapers of Avoyelles Parish.
The building features 101 feet of Main Street frontage with 7000 square feet under a top of the line standing seam roof. It is located on a corner lot with a side parking area. The outer walls are a solid brick one foot thick. The original ceiling is 14feet high.
It can be divided into sections. Individual slots can be leased.
The building, dating to 1899, was built by merchant Jules Coco to house his general merchandise store. It is one of the iconic buildings of old Marksville.
From 1936 to 1956 it housed the Lewis Roy Ford dealership. Roy was a nephew of Coco.
At various times it housed Roule’s pharmacy, Dubroc Supply, Tarver Photo studios, Rudy Haydell woodwork, and John’s Discount Center.
For the last 42 years, since1980 it has housed the newspaper offices with press room and newsprint warehouse.
The Avoyelles Journal, The Bunkie Record and the Marksville News are produced here.
With new technology, the printing press in Marksville was no longer needed and it was removed from the building - hence not the need for such a large facility.
If the building sells, the newspaper offices will move into its former smaller location on Washington Street, also downtown.
The listing agent for the building is Roch Michael Real Estate. Call Van or Catherine Roy at 318-253-4501 for more information.
