Mansura budget completes pay raises for everyone Officers received raises in March

The Mansura Town Council voted to approve its 2022-23 fiscal year budget during their June 21 meeting. The meeting had been postponed from early in the month after Mayor Kenneth Pickett had to be quarantined over COVID concerns.
The accepted budget includes a raise for all town employees except police officers.“The police department already received raises in March 2022,” Alderman Bruce Jackson said.
The 2022-23 fiscal year budget shows increased funds for both the sewer and water departments for upcoming projects.
“The Town has been awarded a $1 million LCDB grant and expects to receive and expend this grant during the fiscal year on water infrastruture improvements,” Mayor Kenneth Pickett said. “The Town also received a $5.69 million LA Watershed Initiative grant for Bayou Lacombe Channel Improvements. This project is not expected to begin until early 2024 and will be budgeted next fiscal year.”
A bid was accepted for $5,883 for the sale of a 5075 E John Deere tractor and a seven foot bush hog. The bid was awarded to Keith Dauzat.
In other business, the council accepted a motion by alderman Shawn Wilson to begin leasing the former Avoyelles Parish Library location at 2111 Cleo Street.
“The library will be out for lease for $600 per month minimum,” Wilson said. “Bids are being accepted as a six month or annual lease.”
