RAPC gives Avoyelles Police Jury update on building permit program

It has been a positive and successful first few months for the new building permit process, the Avoyelles Police Jury was told at its Jan. 8 meeting.

Blake Steiner, chief building officer for the Rapides Area Planning Commission, said the permit process has generated $55,732 since RAPC took over the building inspection program on Nov. 1.

“We have conducted 162 inspections,” Steiner said. “Of those, 130 passed inspection.” He said the 20 percent fail rate “is in line with the rate in our other parishes.”

Most failed inspections are related to electrical issues, Steiner said.

With that in mind, RAPC will be holding a class in this area in the near future on electrical contracting.

He said that should help to reduce the fail rate in the parish.
