Water tower facelift, other projects in the works in Marksville

The Marksville water towers are getting a facelift.
Marksville City Engineer Rene Borrel discussed the painting and gave updates to other projects during the April 13 Council meeting.
According to Borrel, contractors have begun the work on each of the towers and will continue as weather permits.
The cost of the water tower painting project is estimated at $531,350 with Diamond Enterprises, Inc. of Mississippi.
A bid was awarded to Cecil Gassiott LLC for the South Monroe Street sewer project in the amount of $123,900.
Borrel also received permission for the mayor and council to begin advertising for bids on the Benjamin Street Lift station. Under this project, the old station will be completely rebuilt.
In other business:
- A clean out of the bayou near Government Street was approved after Lonnie Dufour of the Bayou Pierite Task Force addressed the council over drainage issues.
Bradley Lewis also addressed the council on the possibility of purchasing property on Government Street to open a UPS store and mini storage facility.
- Occupational licenses were awarded to: King of Wings & Things for the sale of beer and liquor; Burgers, BBQ & More and Semple Tech, LLC.
