Funeral service for Mr. Andrew “Andy” Matthews will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville with Pastor Bart Walker officiating. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph Mausoleum #2. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.
Andrew "Andy" Matthews, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated barber, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 2, 2023. For sixty years, Andy graced the town of Pineville with his skilled hands and warm personality as a beloved barber. His passion for his craft knew no bounds, and his clients became lifelong friends. Andy's Barbershop served as a hub of community, where laughter, stories, and shared experiences were exchanged. The legacy he leaves behind in the hearts and hair of his clients is a testament to his dedication and talent.
Andy is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elzira Matthews, and his cherished children: Troy Matthews and his fiancée Donna, Lisa Mayeux and her husband Robert, Melanie Vanlangendonck and her husband Patrick, and Ashley Lewis and her husband Joshua. His nurturing presence brought joy and strength to his family, and he will forever be remembered as a loving and supportive father.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica Chase, Wade Matthews, Lauren Andries, Rebecca Gill, and Allison Vanlangendonck, who held a special place in his heart, providing him with immeasurable pride and joy. In addition, his two great-grandchildren, Nora and Emma, brought an extra sparkle to his eyes and a warmth to his soul.
In his final moments, Andy was greeted in the embrace of eternal peace by his mother, Hilda Gaspard, his father, Lafe Matthews, and his brother, George Matthews, who preceded him in death. Their reunion in the heavenly realms is a testament to the everlasting bonds of family.
Andy Matthews will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His warm smile, kind words, and gentle presence will continue to guide and inspire his family and friends in the years to come.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 6, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville, 445 W. Bon Temps St, Marksville, LA 71351.
