Anthony Lacombe, Baton Rouge

Anthony Lacombe of Baton Rouge left this life too soon, but his kind and generous spirit left a permanent mark on all who knew and loved him. We will gather to celebrate Anthony’s life at 11 AM, Saturday, April 1, in the Chapel at First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge.

Anthony was blessed to attend St Aloysius Catholic School through his 8th grade graduation. He graduated from Catholic High School where he was captain of the golf team. As a sophomore, Anthony placed 2nd in the LHSAA State Championship. He also competed in the invitation-only Louisiana Junior Cup all three years of high school.

Anthony went on to play golf for McNeese State. After two years, he transferred to Louisiana State University, earning his BS in Mechanical Engineering. During college, Anthony worked for Automated Office Systems where he was privileged to travel to multiple locations, the most exciting being a high security military base in Spain. When the time came for engineering internships, a friend knew Anthony should apply at SIGMA Engineering. This was an incredible opportunity where he learned so much, and SIGMA was loyal to Anthony despite the downturn in the economy caused by the pandemic.

Anthony grew ready to spread his wings and try something new, accepting a job at John Deere’s Thibodeaux Plant. The work was rewarding, but his heart was in Baton Rouge. He accepted a position at Salas O’Brien approximately nine months ago, and his coworkers there described Anthony accurately and beautifully: Anthony was a free-spirited, fun-loving person. We could always count on him to lighten the mood. No matter what was going on, you always knew that you would walk away from Anthony with a smile on your face. He never met a stranger and could connect with you like he knew you forever. He made the Baton Rouge office a fun place to work. Anthony was an avid golfer and loved watching Pelican’s basketball. He was always working on a car, truck, or jeep. This led to his love for mechanical engineering. He gave his gift of engineering freely to friends and family (a.k.a. helping change a tire, oil, etc.)

Anthony is survived by his mother, Michelle Weld Lacombe, father Merlin “Bubba” Lacombe, Jr., and grandfather, John Weld. Aunt Suzanne Weld Cambre (Daryl) and their son, John. Aunt Faye Lacombe Juneau (Bruce), Aunt Sue Lacombe Lemoine (Kevin), and numerous “Lacombe” cousins spread across the state : Mike, Lori, Angie, Jill, Keith, Krissie, and Nicholas. He also leaves his beloved brindle Frenchie, Miss Bumblebee. Anthony was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Beverly Weld, paternal grandmother, Doris Lacombe, and paternal grandfather, Merlin Lacombe, Sr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Anthony’s honor, to Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. Also, please consider being an organ donor, as Anthony was. One selfless act creates endless ripples.
