Audrey Mae Matthews Smith

Audrey Mae Matthews Smith passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the age of 74. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Captain Robert “Bob” Smith for 53 years. Loving mother of Stacey Sistrunk (Carlton), Sheila Smith, Terri Jo Gray (Billy) and the late Cecilia Smith (the late Keith). Daughter of the late Ford and Cecilia Matthews. Sister of Lois Hueschen (the late Michael), Patsy Starnes (Eugene), Debra Johns, Gary Matthews (Trudy) and the late Robert Matthews, Ford “Junior” Matthews Jr., Charles Matthews, Raymond Matthews Sr., Louise Wintzell and Dolores “Nupie” Mackenzie. Proud grandmother 13 grandchildren, 2 late grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Audrey was born on September 12, 1944 in Avoyelles Parish and was a resident of St. Bernard Parish for over 50 years. She retired from FNBC and became a dedicated homemaker. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, BayBay, G-Maw and GG. She had the ability to make everyone feel loved and accepted immediately. Giving to others is what gave her great joy. Audrey was very loved will be deeply missed by her family and all of those whose lives she touched. Special thanks to Egan Home Health and Hospice for their love and compassion during this difficult time. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM. A funeral service will begin at 2:30 PM. Interment will be private.
