BATON ROUGE - Funeral services for Bush Davidson Joffrion were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 12 noon at the Joffrion Family Plot at Greenwood Cemetery in Pineville.
Bush Davidson Joffrion, a retired stock broker, financial analyst, and a resident of St. James Place in Baton Rouge, died on Friday, May 4, 2018, at the age of 88. Bush grew up in Alexandria and attended public schools there, but spent the last two years of high school at Kemper Military Academy in Booneville, Missouri, the school that Will Rogers attended. He attended LSU from 1946 to 1956 with a two-year break from 1951-52 at which time he served as a Lieutenant in F and H Companies of the famous 7th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division in the Korean War. This is the regiment of General Custer Indian War fame. While at LSU, he was an active member of Sigma Nu social fraternity, received an undergraduate degree in Agriculture after switching from Geology, then he obtained a Master's Degree in Animal Husbandry. After graduation from LSU, he was active in farming and cattle for a short period, then accepted a position as the first employee broker at E.F. Hutton. Later the firm was acquired by Smith Barney. Bush was honored by Smith Barney in 2004 as the oldest broker in time of service (over 45 years) at a regional meeting in New Orleans. Bush was recognized in Baton Rouge as an expert in technical analysis of stocks. Morgan Stanley later acquired Smith Barney and was the firm that Bush retired from.
Bush's interest for a short period was in horses and he was an active member of the mounted Avoyelles Parish Posse until he injured his back in a horse accident.
Later his interest turned to LSU baseball. He followed the team passionately and went to the College World Series in Omaha when LSU played there.
During his life, Bush also ran the family ranch named Kirkwood and at one time also named Joffrion Cattle Company, which is located in Simmesport. His extended family enjoyed going there on weekends and holidays when Bush would also be there.
He is preceded in death by his parents, A. Bush and Clara Hope Joffrion, of Alexandra; and brother Brig. Gen. Wilbur F. Joffrion, of Baton Rouge.
He is survived by sister Hope (William) McCollam of Atlanta, Georgia and sister-in-law Beebe Joffrion of Baton Rouge; nephews David (Lisa) Joffrion, Will McCollam, and Dr. Steve (Kim) McCollam; nieces Ellendale McCollam (Chuck) Hoffman, Marian Joffrion (Terry) Colburn, Ruth Joffrion, and Madeline Joffrion; and several great-nieces and nephews.
