Charles Rivers, Sr. , age 90 of Bunkie
Funeral services for Charles Rivers, Sr. will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino, VG officiating. Burial will follow in the Pythian Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Charles Rivers, Sr. , age 90 of Bunkie, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Bayou Vista Nursing Home.
Mr. Rivers service in the U.S. Army from 1946 – 1948. He was a legend and part of Bunkie’s history. Mr. Charles literally “lit up Bunkie” having installed every sign on Main Street during the 50’s,60’s and 70’s and being the only person to make and bend neon. Some of his other accomplishments include being a commercial aircraft pilot, bee keeper, electrician, carpenter, a motorcycle enthusiast and an accomplished musician. Mr. Rivers also recorded several records where, to this day they are still played in Germany.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Essie Louise Rivers; a grandson, Zachary Shawn Rivers; his parents, Odus Dee and Edith Foster Rivers; siblings, Lena Smyers, Ruby Nabors, Inez Pace, Elsie Benazue, Glenn Rivers and Marshall Rivers.
Survivors include his children, Andretta Charles Rivers and wife Geraldine of Bunkie, Ramon Louise Rivers of Bunkie and Charles Otis Rivers, Jr. of Bunkie; two brothers, Robert Rivers of Bunkie and Billy Floyd Rivers of Mineral Wells, TX; his grandchildren, Angela Rivers, Jessica Rivers, Adam Rivers and Tamara Boyd and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie
