Collins Celestine, age 79, of Cottonport

COTTONPORT – Funeral services for Mr. Collins Celestine will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 11 a.m., at First Evening Star Baptist Church in Cottonport where Pastor Greg Jackson will officiate. Committal services will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Progressive Funeral Home of Bunkie.
A public viewing will be held at the church from 8 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday morning.
Mr. Celestine, age 79, departed this life on Friday, May 4, 2018, at the Bayou Vista Community Care Center, in Bunkie.The oldest son to the union of the late Lenora Johnson Celestine and Percy Celestine, Sr., Collins was born on March 15, 1939, in Longbridge. As a child, Collins was nurtured in a Christian home and was taught to love the Lord. He was baptized by the late Reverend Scott Smith in 1947 at the Evening Star Baptist Church in Longbridge. He happily used his beautiful singing voice in the church choir and with a gospel group as a youth. Collins was a member of the 1958 graduating class of George Washington Carver High School in Bunkie. As a means for providing for his family, Collins was gainfully employed with Holsum Bakery, Town of Cottonport’s Maintenance Department, and in the construction industry.
In addition to his parents, Collins was preceded in death by two siblings, Calvin Celestine and Dorothy Celestine-Frazier.
Mr. Celestine is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline (Scott) Guillory of Montgomery, Texas; six sons, Robert Celestine of Bossier City, Steven (Patricia Faye) Celestine of Shreveport, Donald Celestine of Pineville, Joe Celestine of Marksville, Peter Celestine, both of Marksville and Reginald Celestine of Atlanta, Georgia; eight sisters, Queen Esther (Thomas, Jr.) Foster of Bunkie, Josephine (Thomas, Jr.) White of Keithville, Elvira (Anthony, Sr.) Oby of Goudeau, Mae Pearl (Ogden, Jr.) Gaines of Cottonport, Ruth (Alton) Dailey of Cottonport, Leola (Jimmy) Morris of Cottonport, Annette Celestine of Cottonport, and Virgie Celestine of Cottonport; four brothers, Percy Celestine, Jr. of Evergreen, Emile Celestine of Cottonport, Curtis (Carolyn) Celestine of Cottonport and Stanley (Margaret) Celestine, Sr. of Cottonport; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one uncle, Johnnie (Mary Lee) Johnson of Cottonport; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
