Gerard Moreau, Jr, former Bunkie mayor dies

Gerard C Moreau, Jr., age 60, of Bunkie, LA passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, when a rosary will be recited. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow with the Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino, V.G., Msgr. Steve Testa, Rev. Louis Sklar, Rev. Ramji Shoury, Rev. John Wiltse and Rev. Walter Ajaero officiating. Burial will be in the Pythian Cemetery in Bunkie. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Gerard was a generous and selfless man as proven in his family, faith and service to the community. He was a graduate of Bunkie High School, LSU School of Banking and LSU Agricultural Leadership Program. He was a Senior Vice President of Sabine State Bank.
Gerard’s career included over 40 years in the banking industry as well as a volunteer fireman since 1979. He was elected to the Bunkie City Council in 1990, where he served until being elected Mayor of the City of Bunkie in 1999 until 2010.
Additionally, Gerard served as past president and member of the Bunkie Chamber of Commerce, past president and member of the Bunkie Lions Club, devoted parishioner, usher, and Trustee of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus member and past Grand Knight, member of the Board of Directors of Bunkie General Hospital, former member of the State of Louisiana State Parks and Recreation Commission and State Fire Rating Review Board.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerard Christopher Moreau, Sr., and his grandparents, Lloyd and Mary-Alice Giglio Turner of Bunkie and Wiley and Ester Moreau of Cottonport.
Survivors include his wife, Carla Moreau, his children Jill (Gabe) Guidry, Ainsley (BJ) Duplantis and Sara (Joel) Taylor, his grandchildren Madison and Cody Middlebrooks, Charlee Duplantis and Reid, Louella and Nora Taylor, step-grandchildren Beth, Victoria, Garrett, Brett, Liam, Lincoln, Kathryn and Will; his mother Judy Turner Fontenot; step-mother Joann Bordelon Moreau; and his sisters Angela (Todd) Cullen and Lisa Moreau.
Pallbearers will be Gabe Guidry, BJ Duplantis, Joel Taylor, Cody Middlebrooks, Kyle Cullen and Colten Lemoine.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony School or St. Anthony Church Renovation Fund.
