Gisele Jeudy Mayeux, 86, Moreauville

A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2022, the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, for Gisele Jeudy Mayeux, age 86, who passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at her home in Moreauville, Louisiana. Fr. Brian Seiler will officiate.

Gisele was born in the outskirts of Paris, France, in 1935 during the turmoil between WWI and WWII. In 1939, when the Germans began their invasion of France, Gisele’s mother scattered her and her 6 siblings to live in the French countryside, with the hope of the children surviving the horrors of war.

At the end of the German occupation, Gisele was able to return to her beloved Paris and spent much of her time riding her bicycle up and down the streets of Paris, rescuing abandoned animals. With her natural talent and love of music, she often won singing contests at the cabarets in Paris.

As a war bride, Gisele accompanied her husband to Army duty stations in both France and Belgium. After 20 years, along with her husband and family, Gisele moved to the United States. Gisele continued to meet the challenges of life with the spirit of a survivor, but one who loves life. She loved to travel – whether it was the next town or across the world.

Gisele was a talented seamstress and loved sowing. She loved music, animals, and gardening, but most of all, people. She was a board member of the SPCA.

Gisele is survived by her daughter, Patricia Mayeux, of Moreauville. Unfortunately, because Gisele and her siblings were separated most were never able to relocate one another. Gisele is survived by one sister known to the family, Christiane Zebourian of France.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis Jeudy and Amelie Fayard Jeudy, both of France.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8:15 a.m. until the 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Escude Funeral Home in Moreauville. Rosary prayer will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moreauville until the start of Mass.

Interment will follow the Mass at the Bayou Rouge Baptist Cemetery in Evergreen, Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Avoyelles Animal Clinic in Mansura, Louisiana for the care of abused and abandoned animals.

Escude Funeral Home of Moreauville has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
