Hazel Osmun, 88, Bunkie

Services for Hazel Jimmerson Osmun will be held at Melancon Funeral Home in Bunkie Louisiana on Thursday, January 13, 2022, with visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a memorial service immediately following.

Hazel Janice Jimmerson Osmun, age 88, of Bunkie, passed away at Bayou Vista Nursing Home in Bunkie, Louisiana on January 11, 2022. Hazel was born to James Franklin Jimmerson and Linnie Clora Jimmerson. Hazel had gained a new brother at the age of 16 and helped her mother raise him while the family worked. She graduated from Woodland Mills High School in Union City, TN in 1953. Many members of the family moved to Michigan where jobs were more plentiful. Hazel was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir at Allen Heights Baptist Church in Plymouth, Michigan. Among the jobs Hazel held was being one of the first key punch operators of her time, working on the assembly lines at Daisy Air Rifle, and also Burroughs Corporation assembling adding machines. It was at Burroughs where she met her husband Thomas Osmun and married him one year later in 1965.

A few years later, they moved to Hazel’s home state of Tennessee to be near her aging parents. They built a home in Springville, TN on Kentucky Lake and had three daughters. Hazel enjoyed life at home raising her children, gardening, sewing, toll painting and always having dinner on the table for the family. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Gayle Jimerson and her sister, Doris Byars.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas L. Osmun of Bunkie; her three daughters, Faith George of Malmo, Sweden, Melanie Asbell of Dayton, Ohio, and Jennifer Devillier and her husband, Paul Devillier of Bunkie; her brother, Glenn Jimmerson and his wife, Beth, of Plymouth, MI; her seven grandchildren, Jamie Devillier, Angelle Cascio, Nathan O'Flaherty, Camrin O'Flaherty, Joseph Paul Devillier, Alison and Harley George and her three great grandchildren, Emma Claire Cascio, Dean Cascio and Sophie Marks.
