John Firmin, 91, Avoyelles native

John Firmin passed away at 91 on December 30, 2021, a resident of Greenwell Springs and native of Avoyelles Parish. A U.S. Navy Veteran (50-54), he was in the first Police Academy in Baton Rouge Jan 1, 1955 and assigned to the Identification Records Bureau where he continued to grow in rank. Retiring as deputy Chief. He established an Honor Fund for the officers in case of unexpected death. A lifetime member of Fraternal Order of Police, International Association of Identification treasurer over 20 years, member of M.P.O.A & L.P.O.A. & Police Chief's Association. His retirement years were spent playing golf, a hobby he loved, a lifetime member of Gulf States Oil & Gas Annual Golf Tournament, and played golf weekly with the seniors group at Greenwood Park. He also served on the BREC board of golf for several years until this past year. Former Member of the Crusin Cajuns Motor Home Club for over 20 years, as well as attended St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Greenwell Spring, LA. Survived by his wife, Lucille DeGlandon Firmin; daughter, Darlene; son, Mark; and brother, Lincoln Firmin of Waggaman, Louisiana. Preceded in death by parents, Pierre and Emily Dozier Firmin; brothers, Jimmy, Herman and Elmo; and half siblings, Myrtle, Lovica and Ruben Beard. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (11000 Florida Blvd) from 2 pm to 4 pm. Visitation will continue Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church from 9:30 am until Funeral Mass at 11 am. Burial will follow at Louisiana National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Wounded Warriors Project in John's name.
