Odis Sampson, Sr., age 93, of Marksville

Funeral services for Odis Sampson, Sr. will begin at 11:00AM on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the St. Mary’s Baptist Church in Marksville. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Odis Sampson, Sr., age 93, of Marksville passed away on August 31, 2020 at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in College Station, TX.

Odis Sampson, Sr. was born on August 27, 1927 in Marksville to the late Mary Jones Sampson & Harry Sampson, to this union six children were born, Harry Jr., Willie, Curly, Rosa Lee Brumfield and Mary Minkins, all who preceded him in death.

He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. Wallace Jacob at St. Mary Baptist Church. He continued serving God under the leadership of Pastor Ossie D. Clark until he moved away. Mr. Odis was married to Ella Dee (Augustine) Sampson for 35 years until she passed. To this union, four children were born. One preceded him in death (Debra Ann Sampson), as well as his daughter (Julie Ann Jacob). Odis Sampson, Sr. had a love for the teaching and preaching of God’s word. He served as the President of the Usher Ministry where he found great joy as a servant of the Lord. He was passionate about gospel music and singing. Mr. Sampson sang in gospel groups such as “The Spiritual Relatives”, The Four Gospel Writers” and the “Upright Gospel Singers”. He faithfully attended church even as his health started to fail. He left as an inheritance to his children what he learned and knew of Jesus Christ and found joy in his faith, as well as in loving and caring for his family. Odis worked several jobs during his lifetime as a repairman, construction, railroad and library.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Rev. Otis Sampson, Jr. (Wanda) of Marietta, GA; daughters, Ruby Nell Caldwell of College Station, TX, and Michelle Denise Wilmer (Bonnie Ray) of Millington, TN; 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will all miss and cherish his memories. “We love you Paw Paw.”

A visitation will begin at 9:00AM until time of service on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the St. Mary’s Baptist Church in Marksville.
