Shreveport - A Mass of Christian Burial for Rev. Msgr. J. Carson LaCaze will be on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, 939 Jordan Street in Shreveport. beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City. Presiding at all services will be Bishop Michael G. Duca.
There will be a viewing and visitation on Tuesday, July 10, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Vigil Service and Rosary following at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans in Shreveport.
Rev. Msgr. J. Carson LaCaze, age 87, peacefully passed into eternal splendor on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the Fairview House in Shreveport.
A native of Cypress, Msgr. LaCaze was born October 1, 1930, the son of Joseph Lucas LaCaze and Agnes Asoline Rachal LaCaze. Msgr. LaCaze was raised in the Natchitoches area before attending seminary training at Maryhill in Alexandria and the Pontifical Academy Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio. There he was ordained to the Holy Priesthood for the Diocese of Alexandria on May 25, 1957. After ordination, he began his priestly ministry at St. Mary's Assumption Parish in Cottonport, as an associate. That first assignment was the genesis of an amazing priestly career dedicated to serving the faithful in two dioceses within Louisiana that included two assignments at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Shreveport and Pastor of Christ the King Parish in Bossier City where he oversaw the construction of the present Sanctuary. He also spent ten years as the Pastor of St. Mary of the Pines Parish in Shreveport. Msgr. LaCaze was devoted to his chaplaincy service to Barksdale Air Force Base and treasured his role as the State Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus with whom he held great affection for as a Fourth Degree member.
Msgr. LaCaze also served the Diocese of Shreveport as a Tribunal Judge and the second Vicar General of the Diocese as well as Spiritual Director to the Catholic Daughters of America and the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows before taking his final assignment as Senior Priest and Parochial Vicar at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans in 2005, where he was presently serving.
In 61 years of ordained ministry, Msgr. LaCaze baptized, married and buried thousands of believers. A man of extremely high energy, his capacity to keep serving the people of God was truly amazing. Full of grit and vigor, Msgr. LaCaze was also a compassionate, caring and gifted priest with a brilliant mind and a big heart. His generosity was legendary, and he gave himself completely to God's work while making a positive difference at every location he served during his many years of successful ministry for Jesus Christ.
He was the family story teller, historian, and genealogist who could outlast everyone. He also had a love of frog legs, he would hunt, clean, cook and eat them with a glass of chardonnay. He was a collector of many things, especially porcelain rabbits. 
Preceding Msgr. LaCaze in death were his parents; only sister Frovelia LaCaze Spillman; brothers, Steven LaCaze, William LaCaze, Curvin and Raymond LaCaze.
He is survived by his only surviving sibling, brother John Levy LaCaze of Natchitoches along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Msgr. LaCaze as pallbearers for the Vigil Service will be “Jimmy” James Kenneth, Jason Parker, David Spillman, Kavin LaCaze, Thomas Salzer and Danny Christophe. Honoring Msgr. LaCaze as pallbearers at the Mass of Resurrection will be his brother priests of the Diocese of Shreveport. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Ernest Palmisano. 
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to the Priests Retirement Fund of the Diocese of Shreveport, 3500 Fairfield Ave, Shreveport, LA 71104, a cherished cause supported by Msgr. LaCaze.
