Thomas James "Tom" Martin, Jr.

A memorial Mass for Thomas “Tom” Martin, Jr. of Mansura will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 beginning at 11am at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura with Fr. Irion St. Romain officiating. Military honors and interment will be held at St. Paul Cemetery.

Thomas Martin, Jr., age 87, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings.

Staff Sergeant Thomas Martin enlisted into the U.S. Air Force on December 30, 1950 and completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. Sergeant Martin was assigned to Kelly AFB, San Antonio, TX for a short time as a supply specialist before his reassignment to Scott AFB, Illinois. Shortly thereafter, he was reassigned to Brady AFB, Japan as a supply technician. Brady AFB was a staging area for troops sent to Korea. As a member of the 315th Supply Squadron, Sergeant continued his career as a supply specialist and spent his military time on temporary duty in Korea escorting and distributing supplies and equipment during the Korean Conflict. Sergeant Martin was consistent, dependable and accurately carried out all responsibilities assigned to him to a successful conclusion. His military awards and decorations include: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and The Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Medal. Staff Sergeant Thomas Martin was honorably separated from the U.S. Air Force at Park AFB, California on December 3, 1954.

Thomas was a devout Catholic who served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia “Pat” Coco Martin of Mansura; sons, Michael Sean Martin of New Orleans, Christopher James Martin of Covington, & Timothy Lysso Martin of Orlando, FL; sister, Barbara McGogh of Houston. He is also survived by four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Martin, Sr. & Anna Pearl Herbert Martin.
