Virginia Lipoma Smith, 91, Bunkie

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Virginia Lipoma Smith on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino, V.G. officiating. Burial will follow in the Pythian Cemetery under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.

The family requests that visitation be observed at Melancon Funeral Home on Friday, January 14, 2022, from 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. and resume on Saturday, January 15, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

Mrs. Smith, age 91, of Bunkie, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the Woods Haven Senior Citizens Home. She was a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and was very active in the church. Virginia and her husband, James “Red” Smith owned and operated Smith’s Flying Service in Bunkie. She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Red” Smith; her parents, Mike Lipoma and Flora Lipoma Lutz; her sister, Marie Perkins and her stepsons, James Hewitt and Gary Hewitt.

She is survived by her three daughters, Linda Bechtel of Pollock, Mary Smith of Baton Rouge and Karen Smith of Pollock; her daughter-in-law, Frances Hewitt of Franklin; three grandchildren, Lori Terrell Holman (Buddy), Nicki Hewitt Lovell (Chad) and Jason Hewitt (Cher) and eight great grandchildren, Hunter and Madelynn Holman, Kiya, Tristan and Kamryn Lovell, Micah, Kayla and Madison Hewitt.
