Avoyelles advances to quarterfinals in 2A; St.Joe plays Division V semifinal today

The Avoyelles Mustangs upset the sixth-seeded French Settlement Lions, 73-63, in Round 2 of the state Class 2A high school basketball playoffs Tuesday. The 11th-seeded Mustangs will host the No. 3 Rayville Hornets in a quarterfinal match on Friday. Avoyelles gets the home court advantage because it was on the road against French Settlement while Rayville was at home for both of its previous playoff games.

The Avoyelles Public Charter Vikings had too high a hill to climb against the No. 1-ranked Lakeview Gators, falling 66-20.

The St. Joseph Eagles, ranked No. 4 in the 9-team Division V, face No. 1 Family Christian Flames in the semifinals this morning. The winner will play the victor in today's other semifinal match between No. 2 Jehovah-Jireh and No 3 Episcopal of Acadiana at noon Saturday in Lafayette's Cajundome.
