Three Avoyelles Parish teams advance in boys basketball playoffs

Three of the four Avoyelles Parish high school boys basketball teams won their games Friday and advanced in the state playoffs. Two of those teams will take on the No. 1 team in their division this Tuesday.

Only Marksville, in Class 3A, was bumped from the title hunt in a 52-45 loss to Booker T. Washington in New Orleans.

In Class 2A, the Avoyelles Mustangs beat E. Feliciana, 55-49. The No. 11 Mustangs travel to face the sixth-seeded French Settlement on Tuesday. Avoyelles Public Charter defeated West St. Mary, 58-46. Somebody had to play the top-ranked Lakeview Gators in the 2nd Round and that challenge falls to the No. 16 Vikings, who have to travel to Campti this Tuesday before their quest for a crown can go any further.

St. Joseph Eagles won a close quarterfinal game with Northside Christian, taking a 59-55 decision. The small non-public division had nine teams with two teams playing Wednesday and the other seven having their first game in the quarterfinals Friday. St. Joe, which was seeded fourth in the bracket, advances to the semifinal match with No. 1 Family Christian next week in Lafayette's Cajundome.
