Dr. Ophelia Agnes Guice, 68, Lafayette

Funeral service for Dr. Ophelia Agnes Guice of Lafayette will begin at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura with Fr. Abraham Varghese officiating. Burial and military honors will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery in Marksville. Visitation will begin at 8:00am until 11:00am on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura.

Dr. Ophelia Guice, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Ochsner Lafayette General. Upon graduation from high school, Ophelia enlisted in the U.S. National Guard and then the U.S. Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, she enrolled at Northeast Louisiana University (ULM) and received her B.S. and Master’s Degree.

Ophelia migrated to Atlanta, GA to pursue her Doctorate Degree from Clark Atlanta University in counseling and psychological services. She also was a certified addiction counselor, certified sex offender treatment specialist, and certified anger management specialist.

Dr. Guice was employed as a military family life counselor with Magellan Behavioral Health Unit retiring and relocating back to Louisiana. Dr. Guice had a passion for writing fiction stories. She participated in the Atlanta Writers’ Conference in May of 2017 and received a certificate for Best Manuscript Submission. “Switched” was her first novel.

Those left to cherish her memory are her five sisters, Velita (Leonard) Benjamin of Zachary, Connie St. Romain of Marksville, Mary (Sherry Ray) Wilson of Monroe, Anna (Perry) Ferraro of Brusly, and Jannis Guice of Monroe; two brothers, John (Patricia) Guice of Atlanta, GA and Van (Ruth) Guice of Bunkie; one godchild, Trisha Hall; and a host of nieces, nephews, first cousins, and numerous extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucas Guice & Dorethea Guillot Guice; sisters, Regina (Kenneth) Greenhouse and Bernadette Guice; one brother, Joseph Guice.
