On May 1, 1922, Bee was born in the Johnson Settlement during the Flood of 1922 to James H. “Newt” George and Beatrice Guillot George. She was one of six children. She was raised on a farm, shortly before the depression. She and her siblings walked one mile to school, which, at that time, was Red River Elementary. She later attended Marksville Elementary and Marksville High School. She, along with her siblings, worked on the farm during harvest season. Her paternal grandmother, Lucien Moulard, taught her prayers in French, which she learned to speak before learning English.
On June 1, 1941, she married the love of her life, Elton Bab LaPrairie. He joined the army in 1942 and was stationed in California. She followed him and worked at Lockheed Aircraft and St. Joseph Hospital.
Upon return to Louisiana, she returned to school and received her high school diploma in June of 1956. She has worked for Ideal Chevrolet, Gulfco, The Abramsoms, Dr. Brian McCann, and APAC. With her stellar work habit and remarkable mind, she worked until she was 90 years old while also living independently from the time her husband passed until she was 94. She has always said that she was from “The Greatest Generation,” having experienced some of the greatest changes in her lifetime.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Beatrice Guillot George; her brothers, Sam and Jimmy George; sisters, Altha Cailleteau, Jane Lacy, and Anna Mae Laborde. She is also preceded by her son, Ken LaPrairie and her daughter in law, Susan Couvillon LaPrairie. She is survived by one son, Keith LaPrairie, and one daughter, Kathy Dupuy (Terrel) of Marksville. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Memorials can be made in her name to St. Genevieve Catholic Church.
She worked tirelessly to be a good example to everyone she came in contact with, as well as dedicating her life to the church and God.
