A Masterpiece from Mansura: Marie Rachal's Art Shines in 1964 🎨
Mansura Artist’s Painting Chosen for State Art Tour in 1964
In the March 12, 1964 edition of The Marksville Weekly News, local artist Marie Rachal of Mansura was featured after one of her oil paintings was selected for a regional art exhibition.
Rachal’s painting, titled “La Fleuriste,” was accepted for display at the Lafayette Museum Art Show, highlighting the artistic talent emerging from Avoyelles Parish during that era. Following the Lafayette exhibit, the painting was scheduled to travel to Baton Rouge for further display before continuing on a statewide tour lasting eight months.
The traveling exhibition was organized as part of the Louisiana Art Commission’s 25th anniversary celebration, which showcased regional artists from across the state and promoted Louisiana’s growing arts community.
The feature in The Marksville Weekly News captured a proud moment for the Mansura artist, who was photographed holding her framed oil painting. Her work stood among those selected to represent Louisiana’s artistic talent during the commission’s milestone celebration.
This piece remains a reminder of the rich cultural and artistic contributions of residents from Avoyelles Parish.
