A Parish-Wide Tool for Public Safety and Communication

Building a Better Avoyelles and Avoyelles Publishing are rolling out a new, free mobile app called Avoyelles Today, and it has the potential to change how critical information reaches people across our parish.

The idea is simple but powerful. When residents download the Avoyelles Today app and allow notifications, they can receive real-time alerts directly on their phones. No scrolling social media feeds. No hoping someone sees a post in time. The information goes out immediately and simultaneously to everyone who has the app.

This matters when minutes count.

Water boil advisories. Road closures. Severe weather warnings. Tornado alerts. Emergency notices. Public safety updates from police departments, fire departments, towns, and the Office of Emergency Preparedness. These are the kinds of messages that need to reach people quickly and clearly.

Right now, most public entities do a good job sharing information through their own websites or Facebook pages. But those platforms do not always reach everyone, and they certainly do not reach everyone at the same time. The Avoyelles Today app is designed to bridge that gap by serving as a central, parish-wide notification system that pushes important information directly to the public.

Our goal is simple. We want as many people in Avoyelles Parish as possible to download this app. If the rollout goes as planned, we believe it can reach the majority of the parish. If that happens, this tool has the potential to save time, reduce confusion, and in some cases, even save lives.

But this only works if we do it together.

We are asking all public entities that share time-sensitive information with the public to partner with us. That includes municipalities, police departments, fire departments, emergency management, school systems, utilities, and any organization responsible for public safety or public notices.
