Ach-oo in the Bayou: Avoyelles Springs Bring Smiles and Sneezes 🌼
Spring has arrived in Avoyelles Parish, bringing with it the kind of sights and smells that make you want to slow down and take it all in.
Wildflowers are blooming along the bayous, trees are turning a fresh, vibrant green, and warm breezes carry hints of pine and damp earth after a good rain. It is the kind of season that feels almost made for front porch sitting. Unless, of course, your nose has other plans.
For many locals, those pleasant springtime scents come with a side of sneezing, itchy eyes, and that all-too-familiar foggy feeling. Oak, ash, pine, and other tree pollens settle in thick, dusting cars in yellow and turning even a quick trip outside into a gamble. With Avoyelles’ mix of woods, water, and open land, pollen does not have to travel far to find you. Still, not everyone is willing to let allergies keep them indoors.
Travis, a Marksville native and avid angler, says the season is worth the trouble.
“I love the smell of spring out on Spring Bayou,” Travis said with a laugh. “That fresh air and blooming trees, it’s hard to beat, even if I’m sneezing every other cast. I’ll take that over staying inside any day.”
Throughout the parish, many residents take the inconveniences of allergy season in stride, choosing to enjoy the beauty of spring rather than avoid it.
Yes, the pollen is here. The sniffles are too. But so are the longer days, blooming landscapes, and plenty of reasons to step outside.
Just do not forget the handkerchief.
Even with the inconveniences of allergy season, many across Da Parish still make time to sit on the porch, enjoy the fresh air, and take in the beauty of spring.
