Avoyelles Arts Council Unveils New Gallery! 🖼️

The Avoyelles Arts Council has officially opened the doors to its new downtown gallery, offering residents and visitors a fresh space to experience and support local art and culture.

Located at 122 E. Mark Street in the heart of downtown Marksville, the gallery features a rotating collection of artwork from local artists, with new exhibits planned approximately every six weeks. Organizers say the goal is to create a welcoming environment where creativity can thrive while giving area artists a place to showcase their work.

Nestled in the center of the community, the Downtown Gallery is designed to serve as a cultural cornerstone for Avoyelles Parish, bringing together art, culture and community in one space. Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibits and discover the unique talents that make the parish special.

“We believe art should be accessible to everyone—it tells the story of who we are as a community,” said Wilbert Carmouche, Avoyelles Arts Council Vice-President. “Our goal is to create a space where creativity is celebrated and shared by all.”

In addition to exhibits, the Arts Council plans to introduce art classes and host community events in the near future, further expanding opportunities for artistic engagement throughout the parish.

“From local showcases to special events, the Avoyelles Arts Council continues to foster a deep appreciation for the arts while preserving the rich cultural heritage of the region,” Carmouche added. “When people walk through our doors, we want them to feel connected—not just to the art, but to each other.”

The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to stop by, explore the space and support the growing local arts community.
