Avoyelles Council on Aging to host Sweet Potato Cook-Off Nov. 13

The Avoyelles Council on Aging (ACOA) is once again inviting local seniors to put their best recipes to the test at its annual Sweet Potato Cook-Off, to be held Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. at all parish senior centers.

The event, a longtime favorite among Avoyelles Parish seniors, celebrates one of Louisiana’s most beloved ingredients, the sweet potato. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite homemade dish featuring the fall staple, from pies and casseroles to soufflés and creative new recipes.

Entry & judging

  • Entries must be registered by 10 a.m. at each senior center location.
  • Dishes will be judged on presentation, originality, consistency, and taste, with prizes awarded to the top cooks in each category.

The Sweet Potato Cook-Off is part of the Council on Aging’s ongoing efforts to promote active living and social engagement among older adults. Events like these provide an opportunity for seniors to share traditions, swap recipes, and celebrate the flavors that make Avoyelles Parish unique.

Residents are encouraged to stop by their local senior center to cheer on participants and enjoy a taste of the parish’s best home-cooked sweet potato dishes.
