Charles Huseman defeated J. W. Barr in the Ward Eight school board election.

Airman 1st Class Douglas Whiteford received the Air Force commendation Medal for meritorious service as an administrative specialist.
Peter Parrino and son Nick were fishing at Chicot when the weather turned bad and they headed in. On the way, someone gave them a tip about a great spot. Despite the weather they fished and caught 60 white perch in 30 minutes.
Airman Johnny Bordelon of Hessmer was selected for technical training at Chanute AFB in Illinois.
Mrs. Pauline Chauffpied assumed her duties as president of the Marksville American Legion Auxiliary.

Lisabeth Alexander was elected president of the Marksville High DECA Club.
The Bunkie Boxing Club hosted the Tioga Boxing Club at Haas Auditorium. Bunkie boxers included Chuck Descant, Keith Dupuy, Todd Stevens, Barry Ryland, David Levy, Carl Shaun, Glenn Stevens, Donald Williams, Angelo Baronne, Greg Palmisano, Frank Warren, Randy Daigrepont and Todd Steele.

The Bunkie Belles Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association elected Ruth Albritton-president, Dot Wolff-recording secretary, Vickie Ryland-treasurer, Michelle Bordelon-corresponding secretary and Wanda Juneau-vicepresident.
Dr. Richard Michel of Marksville was recognized for 25 years of continuing membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians.

The Marksville High School football team captured the coveted Catskin by defeating the Bunkie Panthers 35-28. The was new MHS coach Benny Brouillette’s first game.
The Bunkie city council voted to run the water line for the new Winn-Dixie from Williams to Louisiana St. The store owner would cover the cost of the rest of the line.
Avoyelles Senior Friends attended computer classes at the Hessmer Vo-Tech. Those in the class included Rita Riddle, Doris Roy, Una Kimball, Laurie Quebedeaux, Pickles and Phil Coll, J.C. and Karen Barbin, Marian Braud, Betty Jeansonne, Eunice Papelbon, Mamie Reynaud, Myrstice Juneau and Laura Keys.
Local judge races pitted Mike Johnson against Carol Aymond and Billy Bennett against Kerry Spruill.

Police juror Tyrone Dufour was charged with disturbing the peace in Plaucheville but the misunderstanding was cleared up by Mayor Mark Gremillion.
A large fight in Bunkie at a birthday party resulted in police and sheriff deputies being called and three BPD units were damaged by flying objects.
Harold and Tina St. Romain of Hessmer were arrested and charged with attacking the school bus driver of the St. Romain’s child. Tina St. Romain repeatedly hit the bus driver with her cell phone and tried to pull her arm off the steering wheel.
Three teachers at St. Anthony’s School in Bunkie, Lise Jones, Rosemary Mixon and Mark Webb, were awarded grants for use in their classroom.
Tiffany Wiley of Effie becdame a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda at University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

Sarah McGlone, Laura Decuir, Virginia Lipoma, Carmel Lipoma, Carol Taylor and Sherry Bordelon were in attendance at the 9/11 commemoration ceremony at the 911 Center in Mansura.
The Marksville Police Department included 25-full time police officers, a team of part-time dispatchers, a fleet of nine patrol cars, a K-9 unit, five detective units with a $1.5 million dollar budget making it the largest police force in Avoyelles.
Bryan C. Bernard of Bunkie received moderate injuries when the truck he was riding in hit a culvert killing the driver.
Bunkie transfer Cade Adams made a game saving play for the Panthers when he blew past the lineman and tackled the Elton back for a four yard loss at the end of the game which sealed Bunkie’s win 18-12.
