Mr. Valentine Dunn was re-elected police juror for Ward One.

All poultry farmers were urged to attend a one-day poultry school at Cottonport High School.
The Mansura jail was destroyed by fire but no one was hurt. The jail was empty.
The Frozen Foods Processing Company, through O.Z. Overbey, local business man, announced that negotiations had been completed with Thom Bryan and Associates, to engineer and construct a modern Quick Freeze Processing Plant in Bunkie. It would be located on west Main Street and was estimated to cost $75,000. It would have facility for the curing, aging, chilling, smoking, processing freezing of food.
E.W. Kohler of Echo protested the closing of the Marksville highway to Alexandria without providing an adequate detour.

Secretary-Treasurer Stephen Guilbeau of the Avoyelles Parish Vegetable Growers Association announced the first meeting of the year to elect new officers.
Randall Johnson was elected president of the Avoyelles Parish Cattleman’s Association.
Mrs. Jeanette Prevost of Mansura received the 4-H District Farm and Electric Award.
Louisiana Superintendent of Education Shelby Jackson announced that Louisiana schools would receive enriched flour and cornmeal.
The Mansura 4-H Club placed first for the best community club in the Southwest District.

Mary McCall was selected as Mansura High School’s 1966 Betty Crocker of Tomorrow.
Former Brouillette resident Mrs. Frank Schneider died in a boating accident.
Mr. Milburn Ducote of Hessmer was elected to the presidency of the Central Louisiana Dairyman’s Association.
Dr. J. G. Dupree, director of the Avoyelles Parish Health Unit, declared a “rat campaign” be conducted at the unit.
The Agriculture Extension Office in Marksville released the first volume of “News of Avoyelles.”
County Agent Kermit Ducote announced the swine production meeting would be held in Marksville.
Mr. Leon Guidry, town merchant of Vee’s Variety Store in Marksville, received recognition for good service.
Lena's Shoe Store celebrated opening a new store on Main Street. Present for the grand opening were Edwin Rabalais, president of Chamber of Commerce, R.L. McCarty of Ruston, A Boot Company sales representative; Joe John Len store owner and Mayor Warren Constant.

Cenla Bank President A.J. Roy, Jr. was elected president of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The Marksville Jaycees announced the selection of Chester A. Coco as Marksville’s Outstanding Young Man.
John S Pierce retired as a director of Bunkie General Hospital. He had been a member of the board since inception in 1968, and was being succeeded by Curt Earnest.
Bordelonville students Neil Juneau, Melissa Desselle, Bruce Desselle, Scotty Bordelon, Liz Juneau and Jill Bordelon participated in the District III Honor Band.

Dana Lemoine of Cottonport was selected as Miss Louisiana College.
Jill Elmer was awarded first place in the Louisiana 4-H Good Provider Contest.
Wanda Rabalais officially announced her candidacy for city council.
A Youth Expo poster contest was scheduled. The hosting schools were Marksville Elementary and Marksville High School.
People Positive” of Avoyelles Parish donated 500 books to parents and teachers.

Benny Brouillette, an assistant coach at Marksville High School, was named the new head football coach and replaced Joel Desselle who resigned in November.
Leigh Erin Cole of Center Point was the winner of the Miss Louisiana Lagniappe Scholarship Pageant. She is the daughter of Wayne and Barbara Cole.
The Ag and FFA students at Mansura Middle sold boy and girl valentine cupids. The yard art was made in class under the direction of Ronald Reech, Ag teacher.
Nathaniel Dominick and Jermaine Mose from Marksville High School were named to the All-State High School Football Team.
Voters in Avoyelles Parish approved two tax measures. Voters passed a tax renewal for the library system in Avoyelles Parish by a 2,378 to 504 vote, 6.2 mills for 10 years.

The Louisiana Dept of Social Services selected the Office of Family Support Field Staff as the Office of Family Support Person of the Year for their dedication, commitment, perseverance, understanding, compassion, cooperation and hope shown during their work in shelters during hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Parish Manager was Pam Mitchel.
Marksville Fire Department worked to put out a fire on Washington Street Ext. where a wood heater caused flames to catch the ceiling on fire. No injuries were reported.
The state pulled the motel/hotel tax funds from the Marksville Chamber of Commerce and other local entities, with no explanation. The loss totaled thousands of dollars a year for the Chamber.
