A local success story is putting Avoyelles Parish on the national technology map. Subterra Technologies, founded by Avoyelles native Noah Deshotel, is gaining recognition across the country for its advanced artificial intelligence systems—proving that major innovation doesn’t have to come from Silicon Valley.

After graduating from LSU, Deshotel made a deliberate decision not to relocate to a major tech hub. Instead, he returned home to Central Louisiana with a clear mission: build world-class AI solutions in the same place he grew up. That decision is now paying off in ways that are drawing national attention.

What Does Subterra Actually Do?

Subterra Technologies is an AI firm specializing in custom AI development, agentic pipelines, AI Policy, AI training and more.

Agentic pipelines are AI systems broken into smaller, specialized “agents,” where each agent handles a specific task—similar to how people in an organization have defined roles. Rather than relying on a single, monolithic AI system, these agents work together to complete complex workflows efficiently and accurately.

In practical terms, AI agents can support everyday business operations such as:

  • Responding to emails and phone calls
  • Assisting with research and data analysis
  • Organizing documents and records
  • Managing schedules and internal workflows

For example, in a law firm, AI agents can help sort client communications, organize case files, and surface relevant information quickly. In construction and contracting companies, agents can assist with scheduling, tracking project updates, and handling routine inquiries.

Unlike large, one-size-fits-all AI platforms designed for mass adoption, custom AI systems tailored to a company’s existing workflows and internal infrastructure. This allows businesses—especially small and mid-sized organizations—to increase efficiency, reduce repetitive work, and improve productivity without expanding staff.

Local Roots, National Reach

Subterra’s growth has extended far beyond Louisiana. The company was recently invited to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Native American Coalition for Economic Prosperity’s Government-to-Government Roundtable Series.

At the event, the Subterra team met directly with tribal leaders, federal officials, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Vice President of the United States J.D. Vance. Subterra was invited by the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana to serve as AI experts—an honor that placed the Avoyelles-based company on a national stage.

Above is a photo from an event that the Subterra team spoke at which community members were invited to learn about AI.

Despite this national momentum, Subterra remains deeply connected to Avoyelles Parish. The team regularly speaks at community workshops, including a recent event hosted by the Marksville Chamber of Commerce, where local business owners were invited to learn how AI can streamline operations and improve day-to-day work.

“This isn’t about trends or buzzwords,” Deshotel said. “It’s about giving local businesses technology they can actually use.”

Subterra in the News

Subterra’s work has also caught the attention of Louisiana State University, which recently published an in-depth feature titled “Keeping Talent at Home: How LSU Helped Inspire Subterra, a Louisiana-Grown AI Company.”

The article highlights Subterra’s commitment to building advanced technology in rural Louisiana while creating high-level career opportunities for the next generation of LSU graduates—showing that cutting-edge innovation can thrive outside major metropolitan areas.

Microsites: A New Venture Under Subterra

One of the most exciting developments within Subterra is its newest product: Microsites.

Microsites is a patent-pending AI platform that transforms complex data and unstructured documents into interactive, visual, easy-to-understand web experiences. Instead of static PDFs or spreadsheets, information is delivered in a format that is searchable, explorable, and immediately useful.

Early adopters are already using Microsites to turn dense, time-consuming material into clean, actionable insights in seconds. The platform is currently building a national waitlist and is designed to replace traditional PDF and spreadsheet deliverables across multiple industries.

A Louisiana Company Leading the Charge in AI Innovation

What began as a hometown startup in Avoyelles Parish is now making an impact far beyond Louisiana’s borders. Yet even as Subterra grows, the company continues to invest time locally—working with schools, chambers of commerce, and community organizations to show how AI can create practical, meaningful change.

With products like Microsites gaining national attention and custom AI systems transforming how businesses operate, Subterra is demonstrating that advanced innovation doesn’t require Silicon Valley.

From community workshops to Washington, D.C., Subterra is carving out a place for Louisiana in the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence. And as interest in the company continues to grow, so does the message behind it:

The future of technology isn’t happening somewhere else—it’s taking shape right here at home.
