Public schools in Avoyelles Parish operate on a Tuesday through Friday instructional week, with Mondays generally reserved for staff development, planning or non-instructional days unless otherwise announced by the district.

Back-to-school resources

Avoyelles Parish schools have provided a Back-to-School Resources page at www.avoyellespsb.com/bactoschool. The page includes school supplies, fee schedules, dress code information, transportation updates, open house dates, school contacts, bell schedules and other school year information.

School supplies

For the 2026-2027 school year, Avoyelles Parish schools will purchase initial school supplies for students in Pre-K through sixth grade. Families may still need to provide personal items such as headphones, water bottles, uniforms or other school-specific items required by their child’s school.

Parents of students in grades seven through 12 will be responsible for purchasing supplies as approved by each school principal. Supply costs for students in grades seven through 12 may not exceed $30 per student. Chromebook replacement, repair or charger fees may apply if school technology items are lost or damaged.

Backpack rules will also remain important for families to review. Elementary students must have clear backpacks. High school students may use clear or mesh backpacks. AVAP students are not allowed to bring book sacks. Bunkie Elementary Learning Academy and Riverside Elementary School students will have book sacks provided.

Transportation and bus tracking

Families should also review transportation plans before school begins. Regular education bus drivers will no longer travel down dead-end roads that require backing up to turn around. Only special needs buses with a bus aide may reverse when necessary. Regular education buses may only back up in emergency situations and with prior permission.

Parents can find bus routes by block at www.avoyellespsb.com. Families with transportation questions may contact the transportation department at 318-240-0235 or email trent.young@avoyellespsb.com.

Avoyelles Parish schools also offers the NFT Parent View mobile app, which allows parents and guardians to track their child’s school bus in real time. The app provides bus location information, estimated arrival times and transportation notifications to help families plan for pickup and drop-off times.
