🚧 Big Improvements in Cottonport: Street Overlay Project Begins! πŸ›£οΈ

The Town of Cottonport has begun major street improvements after securing
$729,518.75 in state and federal funding. The project is focused on new
overlays for:

  • Oak Street
  • Delphine Alley
  • Martin Luther King Drive
  • Choupique Street

Fresh asphalt is already visible throughout the town, and residents are beginning to see long awaited progress.

The work is being completed by Merrick LLC with engineering support from
Pan American Engineers. The project is funded through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development in partnership with the Louisiana Office of the Governor and the Division of Administration. The improvements are being carried out under the leadership of Mayor Terry Jeansonne.

State Representative Daryl Deshotel and Senator Heather Cloud assisted in securing the funding for Cottonport. Council members Curtis Francisco, Margaret Jenkins, Kenneth Friels, Spencer Lemoine, and Demple Prater were also part of the effort and have supported the project as it moved from planning to construction.

Local residents have taken notice. One bystander commented that the government entities involved did a great job in replacing streets that have needed attention for a long time. Many in town echoed that sentiment and expressed appreciation for seeing their tax dollars used in a visible and meaningful way.

Avoyelles Publishing would like to thank the Town of Cottonport for its commitment to improving local infrastructure. The work on these streets represents an important investment in safety, accessibility, and community pride.
