Bordelonville Fire Department Improves Rating to Class 4
The Bordelonville Fire Department has received notification from the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana that, after completing the most recent evaluation and rating, the department will improve its rating from Class 5 to Class 4. This rating system is a means of measurement used by insurance companies on a scale of 1 to 10, with Class 1 being the best rating and Class 10 being the worst.
The department states that all the hard work and dedication of its volunteer fire fighters and first responders has enabled them to achieve the improved rating of Class 4. Much is taken into account by the PIAL in obtaining a fire rating of fire departments. Some items include:
- Fire fighting vehicles and equipment
- Water hauling capacity
- Accessibility to high volumes of water
- Facilities
- The number of fire fighters
- Training of each fire fighter
Many volunteer training hours are put in by the volunteer fire fighters, hours that are normally given after a full day of work at a paying job and weekends. Many volunteer hours also take them away from their families. Fire fighting training provides each fire fighter the ability to do his or her job safely for themselves and those they are assisting, from fighting fires, automobile accidents, and medical first responder calls.
The department notes that it takes the commitment of a village to keep a fire department maintained, and this village consists of all the fire department members and the community that provides support to it. The Bordelonville Fire Department expresses that it is very thankful for the community support that has been given to the local fire department and takes this moment to thank all of the residents in the Bordelonville Fire District 3 area. The department also thanks all the neighboring fire departments for providing Mutual Aid Assistance to the community and the Bordelonville Fire Department for all the times each of them have provided Mutual Aid Support just as Bordelonville provides the same Mutual Aid Assistance to them when called upon.
The department is very proud of the lower rating as a result of all of the above and wants to inform the community of Fire District 3 that the lower fire rating of 4 will be taken into account at the next property insurance renewal. Typically, the insurance companies are notified once a fire class has been changed and the insurance companies use the new class rate at the following renewal. However, residents may wish to contact their insurance agent to advise them that the PIAL fire town class rate changed on Dec. 1, to a Class 4. All insurance companies are different, and they may or may not apply the new lower rate mid-term on a policy, but more than likely it will be at the next renewal.
The department again thanks the community, neighboring fire departments, fire department volunteers and fire fighters, and first responders for their community service and notes that all serve without a paycheck. The department concludes by stating that all are doing this willingly and in hopes of making a difference in someoneβs life, theirs and yours, and offers Godβs blessings and a Merry Christmas to all. π
The department also asks residents to support all local fire departments the next time one asks for support at a fundraiser event, as this is how they maintain the service provided to the public.
