Breaking News In Cottonport


Cottonport, Louisiana — November 13, 2025

At approximately 2:31 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025, officers with the Cottonport Police Department responded to a report of a subject holding another individual at gunpoint inside a residence in the 300 block of Coco Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers determined that an individual had locked themselves inside the residence. The Cottonport Police Department requested assistance from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police SWAT. Law enforcement personnel worked diligently to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution.

At approximately 8:04 a.m., the subject surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect, Keith Derozan Jr., 25, of Cottonport, has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Two (2) counts of Domestic Abuse Aggravated Assault
  • One (1) count of Possession of a Firearm or Carrying a Concealed Weapon by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies

Louisiana Probation and Parole has also placed a hold on the suspect.

Cottonport Police Chief Earnest Anderson commended all agencies involved, stating: “Our first priority is always the safety of our residents and officers. Thanks to the teamwork and professionalism of all involved, this incident ended peacefully.”

The area has been cleared, and normal neighborhood activity has resumed. The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information will be released at this time.
