Avoyelles COVID death toll hits 200

There were only 13 new cases of COVID in Avoyelles Parish over the weekend, including 10 first-time infections and three reinfections. The parish also marked the reaching of a pandemic milestone they hoped would never come -- the 200th COVID-related death in the parish -- as the health department reported another death in the parish over the weekend.
As of Monday, there had been 11,524 total number of COVID cases in Avoyelles Parish since March 2020. That involves 10,731 individuals, of whom 793 have been reinfected — most during the recent Omicron surge.
The state totals were 1.22 million cases and 16,465 deaths in the past 23 months of the pandemic.
