Avoyelles has a better COVID update Friday

After a few COVID updates from the state with less-than-good news, Avoyelles Parish was due for a break. That glimmer of sunshine poked through on Friday, with a net of one new case added to its pandemic total out of almost 100 test results.

The Friday report showed a total of 94 tests, Of those, there were two positive results among 74 lab tests. There were not only no new positives in the 20 rapid result tests, but the state subtracted one previous RRT case from the total number. For those watching the "official weekly positive" factors -- the positive rate for lab test results -- that is a one-day rate of 2.7 percent. That is better than the parish's current official rate of 3.4 percent and much better than the 6 to 7 percent tallies during the past week.

As of Friday, Avoyelles' pandemic totals are 4,283 cases (3,723 / 560) and 123 deaths (115 / 8). The state's totals on Friday were 470,685 cases and 10,576 deaths since the pandemic began in March 2020.
