Avoyelles pandemic totals decline by four cases in Wednesday update

Wednesday's COVID update for Avoyelles completely undid the Tuesday report, giving the Crossroads Parish a net gain of no new cases since the weekend report released on Monday.

The Wednesday update looked at results of 159 tests since Tuesday. The daily report subtracted three positive molecular test results and one rapid test positive result from the parish's pandemic totals -- the exact numbers added to the parish's totals on Tuesday. As of Wednesday, Avoyelles' pandemic totals were 4,345 cases and 124 deaths attributed to the virus. The state's totals were 481,467 cases and 10,738 deaths.

The parish's official weekly positive rate dropped below 1 percent, with a rate of 0.6 percent for the period of June 17-23. That is an improvement from 1.5 percent for the June 10-16 period. Seven of Avoyelles' eight neighbors also saw a decline in their COVID-positive rates. Only West Feliciana -- which adjoins Avoyelles at the small Turnbull Island area -- saw an increase, from 0.6 to 1.1 percent.
