Avoyelles remains 'high risk' with slight increase in COVID weekly positive rate

For another week, Avoyelles Parish's official COVID-positive rate increased in the report released this past Wednesday.
It is hard to get too concerned because that increase was from 1.3 percent from April 8-14 to 1.8 percent for the period of April 15-21.
Still, it kept Avoyelles colored orange -- for "high risk" -- on the Louisiana Department of Health risk map.
The Wednesday report was another one of those with very few tests -- 10 lab tests and 42 rapid result tests. There was one new case among the rapid results. The state subtracted four molecular test positives from the parish's 12-month pandemic total. There were no additional deaths.
As of Wednesday, Avoyelles had recorded 4,161 COVID infections since March 2020. Of that number, 3,643 were "confirmed" by lab tests. The other 518 were diagnosed using a rapid result test that began being used last fall. There have been 123 COVID-related deaths -- 115 victims were confirmed by lab tests and eight had been diagnosed with a rapid result test.
The state's totals Wednesday were 457,326 cases and 10,367 deaths.
