Avoyelles Thursday COVID update: 7 cases, no deaths

Statewide there were more COVID tests reviewed with fewer cases identified on Thursday than there were on Wednesday. That was not the case in Avoyelles Parish.

While Avoyelles daily update from the Louisiana Department of Health was not a "bad" report, it did reflect seven new cases in 252 tests, compared to the five out of 423 on Wednesday. The overall numbers for the state were 941 cases out of 32,191 tests on Thursday and 961 out of 31,816 on Wednesday.

Those Thursday results are not an indication of a problem in the parish. The numbers are small enough to be discounted as a "luck of the draw" indicator for the COVID test analysis.

As of Thursday, Avoyelles' 23-month totals showed 11,538 cases affecting 10,745 individuals in the parish with 793 being reinfected -- most of them during the recent Omicron variant surge. There have been 200 COVID-related deaths in the parish since March 31, 2020.

The parish has had three straight daily reports without an additional COVID-related death or reinfection case.
