Avoyelles weekend COVID update: 11 new cases, no additional deaths since Friday

Avoyelles Parish is now in a band of parishes colored "yellow" for "moderate risk." That includes neighbors Pointe Coupee, West Feliciana and Catahoula. Of some concern is the fact that neighbors Rapides, St. Landry and LaSalle are still orange-colored "substantial" risk parishes while Evangeline and Concordia are red "high risk" parishes.

The weekend update for Avoyelles looked at 403 COVID tests for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. There were 11 positive results. Some would say that's less than three per day, which is much better than the parish has seen at times in the pandemic. The more math-inclined will note that reflects a one-day test pool positive rate of 2.7 percent. That is also relatively good, compared to two months ago, but disappointing in light of below 1 percent weekly rates for this past month.

The pandemic totals for Avoyelles as of Monday were 7,341 cases and 181 deaths. The state totals were 762,659 cases and 14,622 deaths.
